American Songwriter Presents: John McCauley & Robert Ellis

American Songwriter is pleased to co-present with the Stone Fox two of our favorite songwriters on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

John McCauley, of the “divine and messy” rock and roll band Deer Tick as well as the new project Diamond Rugs, has had a prolific songwriting career since the release of 2007’s excellent War Elephant. As far back as 2009, McCauley, who is now based in Nashville, discussed the influence of country and folk songwriting icons like Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, and John Prine.

Robert Ellis, a Houston native now based in Nashville, released his 2011 album, Photographs, on New West Records. We praised the album for its “plainspoken lyricism” and Ellis’ ability to craft “elegantly rustic melodies,” and once even declared, “If this young Texan is the future of country music, the future looks good.”
